Q:
How many days a week can they come to practice ?

A:

This can vary from child to child. Beginners may need a more consistent practice cycle so that they learn the routines, develop proper muscle memory, and increase their cardiovascular and aerobic capacities. For the beginner, even short distances will seem difficult, and workouts may be shorter, but the frequency rather than the duration is most important for producing incremental improvement. They will want to see self-improvement to feel successful with what they are doing. The following is a general guideline for practice frequency. You should discuss your swimmers particular situation with the Coach.

  • For the year-round competitive swimmers this may be 4 to 6 days per week.
  • For the "Beginning Team Experience" swimmers, this should be 2 or three days per week.
  • For the cross-trainer, this may be only 1 to two days per week of focused, serious swim training.
